Solar Rooftops

With energy bills going through the roof and increasing pressure from stakeholders to be more sustainable, many businesses are embracing rooftop solar for its economic and environmental benefits.

Benefits of Solar Rooftops

Cheapest Source of Electricity

Solar PV is the cheapest source of electricity in history (IEA, 2020) providing a lucrative, long-term investment opportunity with solar PV electricity costing the equivalent rate of 5p / kWh.

Energy Security

A solar PV system mitigates the risk to your business of energy price hikes. On-site generation enables greater energy security as a proportion of your electricity supply is generated on site from a cleaner, cheaper electricity source.

Carbon Reduction

Your business’s solar PV system generates clean energy from a renewable source, supporting your ESG goals and reducing your carbon footprint.

"The completion of the Thorlux headquarters installation is truly outstanding, with over 3,000 high-power panels. I am very proud of the result, and when I study my mobile app - which on a sunny day shows we are generating more electricity than we are using - I find it motivational and inspiring."

Michael Allcock

Group Chairman, FW Thorpe PLC

"Ineco successfully delivered a project installing 640 panels on our factory. There were no issues, they were supportive before, during and after the project and there were no surprises. They really know their stuff. The words I would use to describe Ineco and those working within in it are reliable, trustworthy and honest. If you are wanting to install solar panels, Ineco should be on your call list."

Jo Craner

Finance Director, Aubrey Allen

"Investing in Solar PV helped us to benefit from clean and affordable energy on site. We have been incredibly impressed with the clear communication from Ineco throughout the project which has made it effortless for us."

Finance your Solar PV system

Self-funding a solar panel investment will provide the most lucrative investment opportunity with long-term returns delivering economic and ecological benefits for generations to come. Additionally, the investment business case may be enhanced by tax relief and/or available grants.

Not all businesses may want to invest their capital into a solar panel system. Asset finance enables your business to benefit from Solar PV without the upfront capital outlay. Ineco takes care of it all, working alongside a network of trusted solar finance partners who will tailor finance solutions to meet your needs. Typically, Asset finance is repaid over 5-10 years providing financial and environmental savings from day one at the equivalent electricity rate of 5-7 p / kWh.

A solar PPA financed system involves a funder owning, operating and maintaining a solar panel system on your roof. This electricity generated is sold back to your business at a discounted rate. Typically, a solar PPA is a longer-term agreement of 15-25 years that delivers carbon and cost savings from day one at the equivalent electricity rate of 7-10 p / kWh.

FAQs

A solar photovoltaic (PV) system, also known as a solar panel system, absorbs the sun’s light and converts it into electricity which can be used throughout your business. A solar PV system is made up of a number of modules or panels which host smaller individual solar cells. These solar cells absorb the sun’s light through semiconductor material to create an electrical charge. This direct current (DC) then flows through a specifically chosen inverter which converts the DC into alternating current (AC) for use throughout your business.

Generally, commercial solar panel systems do not require planning permission providing the building is not listed, or in an Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB), and a few other exceptions. If your solar panel system is above 50kW you will require council approval to ensure it is within development guidelines

Solar PV electricity was declared the ‘cheapest source of electricity’ according to the International Energy Agency in 2020.

The average unit cost of solar PV-generated electricity depends on a number of site-specific factors as well as how your system is financed.

As of Jan 2024, the average unit price of grid electricity was 28.7p. Whilst there are caveats and multiple influences that affect the price of solar-PV generated electricity we can generalise that:

  • A CapEx funded system provides electricity at a rate of 5p per kWh
  • A financed system provides electricity at a rate of 7-10p per kWh
  • A PPA funded system provides electricity at a rate of 10-15p per kWh

Typically, a commercial solar PV system can supply between 30-60% of your total energy demand for the year, although this is dependent on varying factors:

  • Time of year
  • Shading/ Sunlight Exposure
  • Maintenance
