The Motivation
Heronshaw School recognised that its roof was a prime location for solar panels, as the building received significant sunlight. Having already installed canopies to shield classrooms from excessive heat, the school saw an opportunity to harness solar energy. Upon discovering government funding options that would enable them to install and own solar panels, they pursued the initiative. Further energy savings were identified through LED lighting upgrades, prompting the school to implement both solutions in a move towards sustainability and long-term cost savings.
The Ineco Solution
Energy Survey & Analysis
We began with a comprehensive survey and analysis of Heronshaw School’s energy consumption and utility bills. This assessment identified key opportunities for reducing energy costs while implementing a greener, more efficient energy system. Like many schools, Heronshaw recognised that solar PV panels and LED lighting were simple yet effective first steps towards achieving the governments target of net zero emissions.
Site Audit & Bespoke Design
A thorough site audit was conducted to capture essential building dimensions and compile a full asset register. Using this data, our in-house design team created a tailored energy solution to maximise efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Seamless Installation
To minimise disruption, our expert team carefully planned the installation process. LED lighting was fitted during evening hours after pupils had left for the day, ensuring lessons remained unaffected. Meanwhile, solar PV panels were installed over the weekend to maximise efficiency and safety. This meticulous approach allowed for a smooth transition to a more sustainable learning environment.
Heronshaw School now enjoys significant financial savings through reduced energy consumption, allowing funds to be redirected towards educational resources. The upgraded LED lighting enhances the learning environment by providing better, more consistent illumination, while the solar panels contribute to a lower carbon footprint. These improvements support the school’s long-term sustainability goals, fostering a greener future for students and staff alike.
